Grant McCann believes the 2-1 win over Scunthorpe United in the Carabao Cup first round was Rovers' best performance of the 2018/19 season so far.

Goals from Mallik Wilks and Danny Andrew secured Rovers' passage to round two, and the manager was pleased with his side's dominant display.

He said: "I thought we controlled the game from start to finish, some of the general play was outstanding and we should have scored more goals.

"I'm not going to let up until we find that ruthless edge and the players know that, we haven't found it yet so we'll keep working.

"There wasn't really a bad performance from anyone out there, the energy that we played with was great to see."

Andrew's goal was his first in Rovers colours since signing from Grimsby last summer, and McCann was full of praise for both of his full-backs following another impressive performance.

He added: "I don't really like singling people out for good performances in the changing room but Danny Andrew and Niall Mason were fantastic.

I've praised them both for their work, I may have been slightly critical in the opening couple of games but they delivered.

"Danny had a few chances to get some shots away from distance and I'm delighted he managed to get the goal which sealed the game."
