Tommy Rowe believes already knowing Grant McCann made it a smoother transition for him when the manager was appointed.
The pair were both part of a promotion winning side at Peterborough, and the midfielder hopes they can have similar success while working together at the Keepmoat Stadium.
He said: “It’s difficult sometimes when a manager comes in as you have to get used to their ideas and philosophies but it was good to already know Grant and how he works.
“I only knew him as a player when I was at Peterborough though so it is still different, the pre-season has been good and everyone is enjoying it.
“We have a new system is one which everyone has bought into, you have to be aggressive and look to get on the front foot.”
Rovers kicked off their 2018/19 Sky Bet League One campaign with a 3-2 win at Southend United last weekend, and now head into their first home league game against Wycombe Wanderers.
Rowe added: “We’ve been building here with players developing all the time, it would be great for Grant to come here and take us on to that next step.
“Given how we performed last season, we analysed where we can improve and everybody is aware of the importance of getting it right this season.
“Everyone wants to win promotion and play at a higher level, we have the quality within the group to be able to do that.”
