Tommy Rowe believes it is important Rovers show a good response after their first defeat of the 2018/19 season.

Liam Boyce's 47th-minute winner was enough to see Grant McCann's side beaten for the first time this season at Burton Albion on Saturday, and Rowe knows the squad are capable of bouncing back quickly.

He said: "It was off the mark but we'll review it and look to improve, we have a squad capable of reacting and getting a good result on Tuesday.

"We only lost by one goal in a game where we didn't play well, it was one of those days at the office where it didn't fall for us.

"This is the biggest test for us now, you find out more when you lose games and now it's a case of how well we can react."

Rovers return to the Keepmoat Stadium to take on Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday night, and the captain reckons that is the ideal opportunity to get back to winning ways.

He added: "The manager has given us a belief when we cross the white line, we don't make excuses and we know the mentality we have to maintain.

"The games we've won have been ones where we could have been more ruthless, we need to adapt and keep progressing.

"Sometimes you have to play a different way and keep plugging away, we had chances and on another day we would have taken them."

Rovers are back at the Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday August 21 to take on John Askey's Shrewsbury Town in Sky Bet League One, get your tickets now from tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
