Paul Stancliffe wants his U18 side to express themselves in this season’s EFL Youth Cup as Rovers kick-off their campaign against Walsall on Saturday.

Rovers  will take part in an initial group stage which will see them take Lincoln City, Shrewsbury Town as well as the Saddlers, and Stancliffe is looking forward to seeing what his players can produce.

He said: “The aim is to win as always, we want to try and get as far as we possibly can in all of our competitions, but especially in this one because we have won it a few years back, so we know it is winnable.

“Every club in the cup at the minute is saying that, though, and it is going to be difficult because we are coming up against Walsall who we don’t know much about.

“Shrewsbury are an unknown quantity as well, so they’re teams we don’t usually play at any time in the season which means it will be a challenge.”

Saturday’s game kicks-off at Cantley Park at 11am, entrance is free.
