Rovers supporters unable to attend Tuesday’s home game against Shrewsbury Town will be able to watch all the action live as the match will be streamed via the club’s iFollow Rovers service.
It will be the first time a Rovers match has been available to be streamed via the club’s specialist video service in the UK and Ireland, and will cost just £10.
That includes full live coverage of the match along with specialist commentary from the club’s media assistant Robbie Andrews and expert summariser Peter Catt - a former sports editor of the Doncaster Free Press.
Rovers media manager Luke Thornhill said: “We’re really pleased with the feedback on the enhanced service we’ve received from those based overseas who have been able to watch games already, with Rovers-focused commentary and some on-screen graphics such as the scoreline really adding to the experience.
“To be clear this live stream is not included in any of the existing subscription packages, though they will continue to run as normal with audio commentary and a full-match replay with commentary available the following day.”
A number of Rovers games will be available thanks to changes in the latest broadcast rights package agreed with Sky Sports, enabling live streaming for Sky Bet League One and Checkatrade Trophy games which are not shown live by the broadcaster and fall outside Uefa’s blocked hours.
Luke added: “Uefa’s article 48 rules prevent games which take place on Saturday afternoons or bank holidays being shown live in domestic markets, which is why we can only stream these matches overseas. The blocked hours are 2.45pm-5.15pm, so midweek Saturday games will also be eligible so long as they finish by then and are not televised.
“This means supporters have more ways than ever of following the team, and for those who are unable to get to the game - especially when it is a long away trip - it is another option to keep right up to date with all the action.”
