Forward Mallik Wilks says Rovers were the best fit for him after turning down offers from other EFL clubs before joining Grant McCann’s side.
The 19-year-old who is on a six-month loan deal from Sky Bet Championship side Leeds United, says he is looking forward to making the step-up to League One.
“There were other clubs interested but I always though that moving to Doncaster would be the best option for me because of the way the gaffer plays football, it suits me and I think I might be able to get more game time,” he said.
“I did not want to go back to League Two as I wanted to move forward after winning the league with Accrington Stanley last season, so I am looking forward to making the step-up to League One.
“The way the gaffer plays means that we can hit teams on the break and that can kill teams in this league, and I think you could see that in the way we played against Southend United.”
Rovers kicked off their Sky Bet League One season in impressive fashion with a 3-2 victory against Southend on Saturday, and Wilks says the side have the talent to achieve promotion to the Championship.
“There is a good group of lads here and I honestly believe the talent that we have in this squad, we can go on to achieve promotion this season,” he added.
“John Marquis is a great finisher and he is a a character in the changing rooms which is always good, I am looking forward to playing alongside him this season.
“I get along with everybody in the squad to be honest, there isn’t anyone that I don’t like, and there is a very tight unit here.”
Rovers are looking to build on this victory when Wycombe Wanderers visit in the first home game of the season on Saturday August 11.
