Mallik Wilks wants Rovers' winning start to the season to continue following Tuesday night’s progression into the Carabao Cup second round.

Wilks scored his third goal in three games in the 2-1 victory over Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park, and he says the momentum Rovers are building is helping both him and his teammates.

“We want to keep winning, keep the momentum going and take that into Saturday now, we’re on a winning streak at the moment and we don’t want that to end, we’ve played some great football and there’s no reason why that should stop,” he said.

“It was a good game and it’s always good to win the local derby, we wanted to win and we’ve come here and done just that so it’s all good, we stuck to what the gaffer wanted us to do, he told us not to get into the derby and just play our football and that’s what we did.

“There’s nothing better than when you’re starting games and then you’re scoring and winning them too, when you’re performing well you have to fight to stay in the team, there’s a lot more pressure on us to stay in the side, but long may it continue.”

Wilks, currently on loan from Leeds United, grabbed the opener in the first half of the win over the Iron, and he says the system in which Grant McCann wants Rovers to play in really suits his game, and also allows him the opportunity to enjoy his football more.

“I love playing in derby games, it’s even better when you win one because you get the fans going and it’s great to play in, I might be a player that will frustrate the opposition fans but I love them all," he added.

“I’ve had a lot of comments from the Rovers fans over social media which have been nice, I’ll like them or I’ll reply back to them sometimes, I’m not going to block that out, I love having a laugh with them and I’m really enjoying it here.”

Rovers are back at the Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday August 21 to take on John Askey's Shrewsbury Town in Sky Bet League One, get your tickets now from tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
