Rovers manager Grant McCann believes keeping Herbie Kane at the club until the end of the season is a signal of intent in his side’s push for promotion.

With six goals in his last nine games, Kane has hit an impressive run of form and McCann believes that keeping the midfielder at the club can help Rovers have a successful end to the 2018/19 campaign.

“I’m really pleased that we’ve kept Herbie until the end of the season. He’s a pleasure to work with and he’s going to have a huge future, hopefully he can have a successful campaign with us,” said McCann.

“Liverpool have been outstanding with us. They trust that Herbie is developing in the right way with us and we’re looking forward to working with him again. His performances are getting better and better and I think everyone can see he’s a big part of our team. We want to continue improving Herbie and hopefully he can improve us. He’s scoring some big goals for us and he’s well-liked in the changing room, he’s such a down-to-earth kid.

“The board, the owners, the chairman, and Gavin Baldwin were outstanding because it’s been quite complicated, there were a lot of things going on. Herbie’s agreed his new deal with Liverpool which is great for him and the stipulation was that he would agree that first before we could agree a loan with him. The board have backed me so well on this deal and I think everyone can say a massive thank you to them for making this happen.”
