Grant McCann is backing his players to show a response when they take on Gillingham in Sky Bet League One.

Rovers go into the game just two points outside the play-off places, and the manager is confident of getting a result on the road.

He said: “There will be changes from the game on Boxing Day, I feel like we need a bit of freshness and energy about us.

“We’ve looked slightly flat over the past couple of games so we’re working hard to make sure we get away from that.

“I always want my team to play good football but you have to be able to do it with a purpose which is key for us."

The last game between the two sides ended in a 3-3 draw at the Keepmoat Stadium, but McCann is expecting a different encounter this time around.

He added: “It’s an important period in the season and we want to get back to winning ways as soon as possible.

“We’re going up against a team who have just beaten Portsmouth so we know how tough the game is going to be.

“Our analyst works hard to make sure the players are given every detail they need to we’ll be prepared for Gillingham.”

Rovers return to the Keepmoat Stadium to take on Rochdale on New Year's Day, tickets are available from tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
