Paul Stancliffe was pleased with his U18 side’s resilience as they fought back from a two-goal deficit to earn a point against table-topping Grimsby Town.
Rieves Boocock scored a brace to make sure Rovers U18s finished their final match of 2018 with a point. The team now sit fourth in the EFL Youth Alliance – four points behind leaders Grimsby.
Stancliffe said: “I am pleased we managed to score because I don’t think we deserved to lose this game today based on the performance.
“They scored a goal after four-minutes, but I think we dominated the first-half without really threatening their goal. They had a couple more chances where they hit us on the counter-attack.
“Second-half I felt we didn’t really reach those heights. We didn’t really repeat the performance of the first-half, which was disappointing. But I am delighted with a point.”
During the game, Rovers produced some outstanding attacking football, but Stancliffe felt they lacked a cutting edge with their chances.
He added: “We had a lot of good possession today, we moved the ball about and switched the play but probably in the final-third we just lacked that bit of cutting edge.
“But we’ve got time to now re-group over Christmas and go again in 2019 and continue to compete at the top end of our division.”
