Ferguson looking for maximum points

8 February 2018

Darren Ferguson wants his Rovers side to pick up more wins as they head towards the final third of the season, starting with Saturday’s visit of Charlton Athletic.

The Addicks pose a strong threat to Ferguson’s men, but he is confident that his side have what it takes to earn a positive result.

“This league is so tight, and we know a couple wins leaves you in good stead, whereas a couple defeats leave you looking over your shoulder, so we will look to start Saturday on the front foot,” he said.

“Charlton are a great footballing side and they’ll give us a tough game, they have some great players and play a very fluid style of play, but its one that we’re looking forward to, I’m sure it will be a great game of football.

“Me and Karl Robinson have a healthy respect for each other, going back to our times at Peterborough and Milton Keynes, he did a good job there and he’s doing a great job with Charlton.”

Saturday’s game at the Keepmoat Stadium is the first of three over the space of eight days, and Ferguson believes that his side can take confidence from the last time they played so many games in such a short space of time.

“We want to end the season in a good position, you can quickly move up the table when you’re on a good run, we’re pretty much in the middle, things can change very quickly, as we saw first hand over Christmas,” he added.

“We’re overdue a win, we have the most draws out of any team in the league, and that shows there’s such fine margins in games, our home games are so important, we’ve been very good at home this season.

“It’s a big week with three games in eight days, we will make sure we are ready for the week ahead, anyone underneath the top six that goes on a run will put themselves right in the mix, someone has to do it so why not us?”
