Ferguson relishing Rotherham affair

22 February 2018

Darren Ferguson is relishing the prospect of facing local rivals Rotherham United this weekend.

Rovers make the short trip across South Yorkshire to face the Millers following a 3-0 win against Fleetwood Town, and Ferguson says that his players are well up for Saturday’s game.

"These are the ones where you wish you were playing again, I’d love to be involved on Saturday, it’ll be a full house with 2,500 of our fans making the journey across, it’s a proper game and the early part will be blood and thunder,” Ferguson said.

“I’m really looking forward to it and so are the players, you can just sense it, it’s one that we’ve singled out to look forward to, we know how important it is, they’re in great form and they’re very effective in the way they play.

“They’re confident and it’s in their own back yard, it’ll be a tough game, but when my players are on it and we get the intensity we saw against Fleetwood, we will give anyone a good game in this league.”

Saturday’s hosts are currently on a 13-game unbeaten run in the league, but Ferguson is confident that his players have got what it takes to break Rotherham down.

“The last game against them was a real derby game, and we will need to do a lot of stuff that we did well this time too, it’ll be a similar game where both teams are very committed, but we have to find the composure on the ball too,” he added.

“We will be competitive in every game this season, you have to do the basics right, we didn’t change too much against Fleetwood, but it worked because we did the basics better and now we will look to go on a run once again.

“You have to give Rotherham a lot of credit, they’re on a great run, you have to take your hat off to any team that wins six on the bounce, but we will look to build on last weekend, and there’s no reason why we can’t go out and win and continue our momentum.”
