Frenchgate Shopping Centre Doncaster has pledged its support to young people across the borough by supporting Club Doncaster Foundation’s National Citizen Service (NCS).
Doncaster’s top shopping destination will back NCS over the course of the next year, providing them with funds and support to ensure the continued success social action in South Yorkshire.
Open to all 15 to 17-year olds in England, NCS helps young people develop new skills that will help them in their future careers. As part of the programme, they deliver a social action project to deal with a local issue they feel passionate about, and spend 30 hours putting the project into action in their community.
Jan Budtz, NCS programme manager, said: “The support we receive from local businesses is crucial in helping us uphold our community projects in Doncaster so we are grateful to Frenchgate Shopping Centre for their support of our programme.
“The centre is supporting the social action element of NCS and it is going to be fantastic to work with them. I am sure our young people will enjoy all the opportunities that Frenchgate will give them; it certainly went down well during half term when we hosted an activity pod there.”
During the February half-term, the NCS team took over the reigns at the shopping centre with a pod of activity to boost recruitment and raise awareness of the programme.
Supporting the event were graduates from last year’s delivery, who were on hand to show the public their activities including an experience on a Playstation VR, a giant deckchair, exercise bike challenges and much more.
Alongside the support of NCS, Frenchgate Shopping Centre has also joined Club Doncaster as an Official Partner, and will benefit from a range of promotional and advertising benefits to help drive footfall to the centre.
Paddy Mellon, general manager at Frenchgate Shopping Centre Doncaster, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the National Citizen Service, which is delivered by the Club Doncaster Foundation.
“NCS is a once in a lifetime experience for 15 to 17-year olds and is a great way for participants to make new friends, experience new activities and learn new skills whilst contributing to the local community.
“At Frenchgate, we are committed to playing an active role in the local community that we service and give something back, which is why it is important for us to support schemes like the NCS.
“We hope all the young people who take part in this year’s scheme have a fantastic time and we wish them all well on their NCS journey.”
