Alcock calls for belief

26 January 2018

Defender Craig Alcock wants his Rovers teammates to believe in themselves as they continue to rise up the Sky Bet League One table.

Darren Ferguson’s side are on an eight-match unbeaten run in the league, and Alcock says that recent results against teams in the play-off’s should give the them that extra motivation.

“We need to show a bit more belief in ourselves, we are starting to get there with some of the results of late, we have played two of the top five sides in recent weeks and go something out of those games,” said Alcock.

“We have to take away confidence from those games and build on that with the games we have left this season, really it is up to us how far we want to take it.

“The lads in general are a good set of lads, as a team we do not want to get carried away with anything, it is very important that we have that belief especially for the younger lads with how brilliantly they have played this season.”

Alcock came off the bench to put in a display of high quality against Scunthorpe United on Tuesday night, and he says that he would have liked to have come into the game on better circumstances.

“It was really nice to play but I would have liked it to have been in better circumstances with Andy Butler and Mathieu Baudry getting injured, but that is the circumstances and we have a brilliant squad to deal with that,” said Alcock.

“Joe Wright has been outstanding this season, to be honest all three of the defenders have and it’s obviously a blow to lose two of them, but it’s time for other to step up.

“We shown on Tuesday night what a squad we have here at the moment, to come back from a goal down to snatch an equaliser.”
