The sponsored Lakeside walk with local war hero Ben Parkinson MBE returned for a third consecutive year at the weekend, with Doncaster locals joining him on a route around the lake.
As part of the Get Doncaster Moving campaign and supported by Pilgrim Bandits Charity, Doncaster residents were invited to support Ben on the walk and attend Rovers' game against Bristol Rovers afterwards.
8point8 Group also donated their match ball sponsorship to Ben, who presented the match officials with the ball at kick off.
Head of Club Doncaster Foundation, John Davis, said: "We're delighted to support DMBC and Ben in delivering this event and it's fantastic to see the fans supporting the charity, raising valuable funds for the Pilgrim Bandits.
“Ben's a true inspiration to so many and it was a pleasure to host him and his guests on Saturday."
Dean Wiffen, community sport & physical activity development officer at DMBC added: “It was great to deliver the third Ben Parkinson walk to kick off our annual Get Doncaster Walking festival.
“Get Doncaster Walking has been in existence 12 years and offers Doncaster residents a variety of different walks to encourage people to get active, take in our open spaces and have some fun.
“Delivering the annual Ben Parkinson walk provides a safe walk for all, raises funds for Pilgrim Bandits and highlights the determination and progress Ben has achieved through his rehabilitation. Ben is such an inspiration to all and iconic figure in Doncaster.”
Overall, the Pilgrim Bandits managed to raise £826.13 from the event, which will go towards providing injured service personnel and emergency services personnel with specialist sports equipment and wheelchairs.
