Blair looking to capitalise

19 January 2018

Matty Blair wants Rovers to take advantage of Shrewsbury Town’s busy period in Sky Bet League One this weekend.

The Shrews took Premier League side West Ham United to extra-time in the FA Cup third round replay on Tuesday, and Blair thinks that could work in Rovers’ favour.

He said: “It could work either way, they went to extra time in midweek so you’d like to think they will be tired but it’s down to us to try and take advantage of that.

"Shrewsbury have been really good, they have a high pressing game and their work rate matches their quality on the pitch, we have to be on top of our game.

“Apart from the FA Cup result we had a really good Christmas period so the mood is positive, it has set us up nicely for the second half of the season.”

The 28-year-old has been impressed with Rovers’ recent form, and wants them to kick on between now and the end of the season.

He added: “We have what we have and we’re relatively happy with that, but we know that there is a lot of improvement in us to help us climb higher in the table.

“I feel our performances have merited us being higher in the table, I’d say we deserve to be six points better off which would put us in touch with the play-offs.

“We’ve got more of a structure and won’t just push bodies forward for the sake of it, you have to pick your runs and tighten up when you come up against strong opposition.”
