Boyle keen to work with Ferguson

31 January 2018

Andy Boyle says working with Darren Ferguson was one of the main reasons why he chose to join Rovers on loan until the end of the season.

The Irish defender signed from Preston North End on Tuesday, and the chats he had with the manager convinced him to make the move to the Keepmoat Stadium.

He said: "I spoke to the club over the weekend and the manager was really keen to get me in, I was impressed with what he had to say and his thoughts on where the club is heading.

"I've done my homework on the club and have seen how the team likes to play, i'm really looking forward to getting involved and playing some games.

"First and foremost my aim is to come into the team to cover the injuries we've got at the back, i want to establish myself in the team and help us push on in the second half of the season."

The 26-year-old, who played in the Champions League play-offs for Irish club Dundalk in 2016, is hoping his big game experience will benefit Rovers.

He added: "A big part of my game is organising the people around me, I want to lead from the back and try to keep clean sheets so that we've got a solid foundation to build from.

"The EFL is a step up from the Irish league, but i think i've gained valuable experience over the past year so that will benefit me during my time here.

"I've heard a few Irish voices around the place so it's been easy to settle in, all the lads have been really good in welcoming me into the group."
