Andy Butler wants Rovers to take their recent good run of form into the Emirates FA Cup third round tie against Rochdale this weekend.
The game will be the fourth time the two sides have met in all competitions this season, and Butler believes Rovers have what it takes to progress.
“The game provides us with a great chance to get through to the fourth round, we’ve beaten Rochdale recently so that may have an impact on the game,” he said.
“Both teams will know the strengths and weaknesses of each other, in all fairness I don’t think the league game will have too much of an impact on the cup tie.
“We know that if we get through then there’s a possibility of getting a big tie in the next round so there is the added motivation of that, but we have to get the job done first.”
Rovers are looking to go beyond the third round for the first time since 2009, with Butler hoping for another cup run following on from their Carabao Cup exploits earlier in the 2017/18 campaign.
“The Arsenal game will stand us in good stead as we know we can handle the big occasion, the togetherness within the squad is massive and we’re a solid unit,” he added.
“At this time of year with the January transfer window open a cup run could create room for a player or two to come in, that’s what the clubs at this level rely on.
“We had Stoke at home a couple of years ago and that gave us a chance to prove ourselves against better players, which is what everyone wants to do.”
