Ferguson expecting tough Plymouth test

12 January 2018

Darren Ferguson is predicting a close encounter when Plymouth Argyle visit the Keepmoat Stadium in Sky Bet League One this weekend.

Just goal difference separates the two sides in the table, with Rovers having beaten Saturday’s opponents 3-0 in the reverse fixture in September.

Ferguson said: “Plymouth are very similar to ourselves in the way they’ve managed to put a run of results together and climb up the table.

“They’ve grown into the league and got confidence from going a few games unbeaten, we know them well from last season and there hasn’t been a lot of change in personnel since then.

“Both teams are in good form and will go out there to win the game, we’ve got to take the game to them being at home and get on the front foot early.”

Rovers are unbeaten in their past five league games, including two wins in a row at home, and Ferguson wants his side to play with authority against Derek Adams’ side.

He added: “We want to get the three points as that is always the most important thing, I think it will be a different game to the one at Home Park given the form of the two sides.

“We’re going into the game with the boost of Ben Whiteman signing so that should put the fans in good spirits, everyone is happy with the business done.

“I’ve got a lot of potential in this squad and they’ve shown what they’re capable of this season, we’ve tried to add value to it while making sure we still get the results on the pitch.”
