Ferguson looking to keep run going

5 January 2018

Manager Darren Ferguson is hoping that his side can keep their current good form going, as they host Rochdale in the Emirates FA Cup this weekend.

Saturday’s third-round tie with Rochdale will be Rovers’ second meeting with their League One rivals in eight days, having beaten Dale 2-0 in the previous encounter.

He said: “We’ve done well against Rochdale at home, we were the better team last week and we’ve done well at home, but it’s a cup match and it’ll be a tough one, we have to keep our foot down and maintain the momentum.

“For them it’ll be a relief from the league and you often find that when you’re struggling near the bottom, Rochdale will look at it and know that they could’ve got a harder tie, much like ourselves, and we have to make sure we grab this opportunity with both hands.

“It’s an important game for many reasons on Saturday, obviously we want to keep our good form at home going and the momentum over Christmas, and also the finances of it as well and that plays its part.”

Rovers’ form has seen them pick up 11 points from their past five games, including three wins over Christmas, and Ferguson believes his side can kick on after their recent good run and secure their passage into round four.

He added: “The focus stays the same, it’s a good opportunity for us to get into the fourth round and that doesn’t come around all too often, we want another visit to a club like Arsenal, we treat every game the same.

“We’ve shown we’ve had a good mentality over the festive period, they showed great character and the games coming thick and fast suited us, we were in the groove, kept recovery in play and the players grasped that and got hold of it and enjoyed it.

“We had to rotate during the festive period, but they’ve had a couple days off now and they look fresh, I’ll pick my strongest side that’ll go out to win the game, the motivation is to get into the fourth round.”
