Jordan Houghton has confidence Rovers’ strong Sky Bet League One form will not be affected by their FA Cup exit.
Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Rochdale saw Rovers exit the competition at the third-round stage, but with 11 points from their past five league games - without tasting defeat - mean the midfielder is confident the side can put it behind them quickly.
“When you’ve had the chances we’ve had and they don’t go in, you start to think its just going to be one of those days and that’s been proven, we kept going until the final whistle but it just wasn’t meant to be,” he said.
“In the second half we huffed and puffed but we left it too late do anything, we didn’t start very well and played into their hands a little bit, they pressed very high and aggressively and we turned them around but ultimately we left it too late.”
Rovers host Plymouth Argyle next weekend, with Rovers looking to extend their unbeaten league run to six matches against a side they beat 3-0 at Home Park earlier in the season.
Houghton believes there is every reason to be optimistic as Rovers look to build on the results which have seen them climb to 11th in the table.
“We’re in a good place at the moment though and, barring this match, we’ve been on a decent run,” he added.
“I’ve signed to push for a play-off position and there’s no reason why the top six can’t be a realistic aim, I wouldn’t be here if that wasn’t the case.”
