Houghton open to permanent Rovers switch

8 January 2018

Jordan Houghton is open to signing for Rovers on a permanent transfer this summer.

Houghton’s start against Rochdale was his first since his loan from Chelsea was extended until the end of the season, with the midfielder not wanting to be rushed into making a decision on his long-term future.

Therefore a loan was agreed, meaning he could be registered in time to line up against Rochdale on Saturday.

“Options are limited in midfield at the moment and the manager was keen to get me back, so I think the loan was the best option for everyone,” he said.

“All parties had Saturday’s game in mind, it would be my first permanent move so I had to make sure it was right for everyone around me. I'm definitely open to it, though.

"Signing permanently rather than on loan is a big commitment, it means relocating fully up here, which I am willing to do, but just didn't want to be rushed.”

The midfielder wants to enjoy his football before making a decision on a permanent move in the summer.

“With Ben Whiteman going back it left us a bit open in central midfield, we were heading into a massive game and in the short-term it was massive to get it done. I always wanted to stay and now we have six months to sit down before the summer.

“I’ve been happy with my time at Chelsea, I’ve been there since I was eight, but I’m happy to find a home after and kick on and push to where I want to be. A lot can happen in the next six months, but I’ve enjoyed my time here so far and long may it continue.”

Rovers are back in Sky Bet League One action at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday when Plymouth Argyle visit. Tickets are available from the Box Office on 01302 762576 or by going to tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
