Jordan Houghton was pleased to come to an agreement with Rovers early in the January transfer window, after extending his loan at the Keepmoat Stadium until the end of the season.
The midfielder has made 21 appearances in his second spell in South Yorkshire, and says his parent club Chelsea have been impressed with his progress.
“They have been really good in terms of tracking my progress here, they knew I wanted to stay so have done everything they can to make it happen,” he said.
“The main thing for me was getting it done nice and early in this window as I wanted to get prepared for a big game in the FA Cup.
“There have been talks over the past few weeks and that gradually built up to getting it across the line and agreeing on a deal which suited everyone.”
The 22-year-old has signed in time to play in the Emirates FA Cup third round tie against Rochdale this weekend, and Houghton is keen for Rovers to continue their recent good run of form.
“One of the key reasons to get it sorted so quickly was because we’re doing really well at the minute and I didn’t want to miss out on that, we want to keep the momentum going as long as possible,” he added.
“To start with we were a little bit expansive and it took us some time to get used to this league, but now we’ve got a much stronger defensive unit and have learned when to play.
“Over the Christmas period everyone knew it was going to be a key stage of the season for us and we’ve come through it unbeaten, they are the standards that we have to keep reaching.”
