Kongolo looking to kick on

5 January 2018

Rodney Kongolo is looking to kick on following the extension of his loan deal from Manchester City until the end of the season.

Kongolo has made 28 appearances for Rovers so far this season, scoring one goal, but he is happy that he will be staying at the Keepmoat Stadium for longer.

“I’m very happy to be staying here until the end of the season, I’ve been enjoying my football and I always wanted to stay, especially for a full season, because you develop that relationship with the players here and that can help,” he said.

“I’m getting minutes in and getting to know people, playing in this league has been very good, its much harder physically and technically to understand everything quickly, it’s very different to what I’ve been used to.

“You haven’t seen the best of me yet, I want to score more goals, but my highlight has to be the game against Arsenal, that was such a great experience for me, and now I’m looking forward to earning my place in the side now and I’m looking to fight for a spot."

News of Kongolo’s loan extension comes after Rodney’s older brother, Terence, secured a loan move from AS Monaco to Huddersfield Town, and he has welcomed the influence of his family and friends.

“I’m pleased for my brother that he’s over here now and playing for Huddersfield, he’s only an hour away so I can go and see him more, we come from a close family and he’s a great example for me and I want to do even better,” Kongolo said.

“I’ve made some great friends here already, such as Issam Ben Khemis, who has helped me a lot, it’s great to have a friend in a different city that can help you settle, I’m not the type to go out and I normally chill at home so it’s good to go out.

“I’ve really developed here as a player during my time here and I’m really enjoying my football, all the lads have helped my both on and off the pitch, so I’m delighted to be able to stay.”
