Marquis looking for more goals

28 January 2018

John Marquis is targeting a goalscoring run after netting his eighth goal of the season in the defeat to Bristol Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Marquis' opener after four minutes wasn't enough to earn Rovers a positive result, but the front-man is now focusing on adding to his tally further in the second half of the season.

He said: "It's been in the back of my mind for a while about not getting goals but i feel like my performances have been very good, and the goals are the only thing that's been missing.

"The manager said to me not to worry too much as the goals would come, it is a relief and hopefully now i can put a run together as i haven't been able to do that so far this season.

"I've got a manager that believes in me and that is big for any striker, i couldn't become too fixated with trying to score because the most important thing will always be the team doing well."

The loss against Bristol Rovers ended a run of eight matches unbeaten for Darren Ferguson's side, and Marquis says the team can't dwell on the result too much.

He added: "We played quite well for the majority of the game, it was just our final pass or final shot which let us down and we couldn't add to the early goal.

"It's important now that we try and go on another unbeaten run, when i haven't been in the goals the likes of Alfie Beestin and Ben Whiteman have been stepping up.

"We're doing it tough at the moment with all the injuries we've got in defence, they're all tough players so we'll miss them but the three lads back there today did really well."

Rovers return to the Keepmoat Stadium to face Charlton Athletic on Saturday February 10, you can purchase tickets from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762576, or at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk
