Luke McCullough is looking forward to pulling on a Rovers shirt for the first time since last season when he lines up for the Development side on Tuesday.
The Northern Ireland international is scheduled to play 45 minutes against Bradford City reserves as he steps up his comeback from a knee injury suffered in the summer.
He said: “It has been a long time, but I am just delighted to be playing again - hopefully it all goes well and it the start of getting back to the first-team picture.
“Every time you get a setback it adds to the frustration, but the past month or so in training has gone quite well.”
McCullough missed a big chunk of last season with a similar injury, and having come through the process before knows not to rush his return.
He added: “I’ve had the experience of coming back from injury before so I know what to do. We’ve got a good medical team here so we’ve pencilled in a recovery which includes maybe 45 minutes here, then 70 next time and so on.
“When I first went back in I lacked a bit of sharpness, but over the past few weeks of training I can feel it coming back. It’ll come back even more once I get a few games under my belt.”
Tuesday's game will take place at Bradford City's training ground, kick-off 1pm.
