Branden Horton’s sensational goal wasn’t enough to help earn Rovers a result as Chesterfield ran out 2-1 winners.

A rapid start from Miguel Llera’s Chesterfield saw them go close early on after a headed effort on goal forced Delcan Ogley into low diving save.

Jordan Tucker found plenty of space in front of him as he charged down the right-hand-flank before delivering a cross which landed at the feet of Cameron Barnett, who stabbed the ball just wide of the post.

A left-footed cross from Aaron Sennett in the left-corner found the head of the towering Levi Amantchi but Ogley was equal to it and squander the chance for the young Spirites.

The away side took the lead after a dominating period as Amantchi broke through the Rovers defence, beating Ogley from the edge of the box.

Five minutes before half-time, Rovers had a fantastic chance as U16 player Josh Wicks crossed in from the right to find Myron Gibbons, who's effort was went well over the crossbar.

Chesterfield doubled their lead within moments of the restart as Amantchi got his second, cutting in from the right and firing past Ogley.

Rovers pulled a goal back on the hour-mark, as Horton curled a 35-yard free kick into the top-left corner of Teddy Marris' goal, giving Paul Stancliffe's side hope.

Within the dying moments of the game, Rovers had a chance to pull things level through Reives Boocock who saw his effort blocked, the rebound fell to Greaves who had another and this time it saved by Marris.
