Tommy Rowe was pleased with his teammates’ persistence as they grabbed a point at the death at Peterborough United on New Year’s Day in Sky Bet League One.
Ben Whiteman’s 93rd-minute equaliser ensured that Rovers maintained their festive unbeaten run, and Rowe is happy their hard work is paying off.
“It was a difficult game, it was one that we could enjoy in terms of that we’d built this run with nine points from the last three games and we knew that we could come here with plenty of confidence,” he said.
“I think our hard work over this last week or so has really paid off, we had a few chances near the end where we could’ve scored more and got the win on another day, but it’s a great point.
“The clean sheets have been brilliant and the back four and Ian Lawlor have been fantastic, everyone right through the team are straight on the front foot and that’s the best way to defend.”
Rovers have picked up 10 points from a possible 12 over the festive period, and Rowe now believes that the young side now has the ability to kick on as the season progresses.
“We’ve stuck to what we know, this group of players has the potential to go very far, you can’t get away from the fact that this is such a young team, the growth over the last five games just shows where we want to go,” Rowe said.
“This is the grind part of the season where the games come thick and fast, this is a young group with a strong mentality, we talk quite often and reflect on games and where we can do better and we are always confident we can get a result.
“Nothing has changed for us, our standards are the same and we want to push them higher, it’s a busy January and we want to keep the momentum going and start to look forward and this young side will grow in the next couple of months.”
