Lewis Scattergood is aiming for more goals heading into 2018 after playing a pivotal role in Rovers U18s’ 1-1 draw with former league champions Mansfield.
The forward saw a second-half effort come off the crossbar, while he was a nuisance throughout for the visiting defence.
He said: “As a striker you want to score goals I feel like this season I haven’t scored enough as what I have wanted to, so I do start improve.
“They got an early goal, so they dropped off us, but we were good on ball and had a lot of possession, but we just needed to take more chances and be a bit more creative in the final third.”
Scattergood is in his second year as a scholar at Cantley Park, and feels he has developed under the guidance of coach Paul Stancliffe.
He added: “It has been good to say we had a bad start to the season, we’ve not put a real run of games together where we have performed really well.
“It has been good for me to be involved, and not just football-wise. As a person and physically I think I’ve come on a lot in my time here which sets me up.”
Rovers’ Development side will host Morecambe at Cantley Park on Tuesday 9 January (kick-off 1pm). Entry is free.
