Whiteman wants more improvement

12 January 2018

Ben Whiteman’s focus is on helping Rovers climb further up the Sky Bet League One table, after signing a permanent deal with the club.

The 21-year-old scored seven goals in his initial loan spell to help guide Rovers to 11th in the table, and he has no doubts that the team has what it takes to keep progressing.

“We want to push on as a team and now that we’re not far off the play-offs, they have to be the aim and with the quality we’ve got in the squad we should be confident,” he said.

“The performances have been there throughout the season and now we’ve started to pick up the points so it’s about continuing that for as long as possible.

“We’re only a few points off the top six so there’s no reason why we can’t keep looking up and the fans have seen what we’re capable of when we’re on top form.”

Whiteman was pleased with how quickly the move for him to sign permanently was done, ahead of a key game against Plymouth Argyle at the Keepmoat Stadium this weekend.

“I’m really happy that everything happened very quickly. I knew that the deal was on early in the week so to get it done already has been massive for me,” he added.

“It was always in my mind to try and make a permanent move here, whether that be now or at the end of the season I wanted to stay here in the long-term.

“I had a week off last week and wasn’t involved because I was cup-tied, so I’m raring to go and can’t wait to get back out there with the lads.”
