Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder felt Rovers gave his side a real test during Friday’s pre-season game at the Keepmoat Stadium.
Rovers were particularly impressive in the opening half before a much-changed side conceded two late goals, with Wilder highlighting how often goalkeeper Simon Moore was made to work.
Wilder said: “Doncaster provided a good test, they moved the ball around, kept players up the pitch, but we improved in the second half.
"Simon Moore did well, he worked harder than we would have liked and made some excellent saves, which is great for him."
Rovers kick-off their Sky Bet League One campaign at Southend United on Saturday August 4, before their first home outing against Wycombe Wanderers the following Saturday.
