Andy Butler has welcomed the addition of his former Scunthorpe United teammate Grant McCann as the club’s new manager.
The pair spent a season together at Glanford Park in 2008, and the club captain believes McCann’s winning mentality will bring success to Rovers.
He said: “Getting the manager in brings some stability, it’s important it was done early so that the players get an understanding of how he wants things to happen.
“I played alongside Grant and Cliff Byrne at Scunthorpe, they’re both good characters which is what every squad needs and what you see is what you get with them.
“Cliff was captain when we had a successful season at Scunthorpe so hopefully he can bring that experience and use it for the better while he’s at the club.”
With the first-team squad currently in La Manga on a five-day training camp, Butler is looking forward to building fitness levels up going into the 2018/19 campaign.
He added: “With a new manager it’s important for everyone to bond while we’re away, we will probably have meetings with him to see what his ideas are for the season ahead.
“The first game of the season is just a month away and I can’t wait, it’s all pointing in the right direction and we’re all confident.
“The majority of the squad are still here from last season, I’m sure the gaffer will bring in a few additions that will improve us and push us up the table.”
Rovers kick-off their Sky Bet League One campaign at Southend United on Saturday August 4, before their first home outing against Wycombe Wanderers the following Saturday.
