Midfielder Ali Crawford says he enjoyed his first taste of English football in Tuesday night's friendly against Grimsby Town at Blundell Park.
Crawford completed the full 90 minutes in the 1-0 defeat against Grimsby Town, and he believes once Rovers get their season underway their is no reason why they cannot compete.
“Nobody likes to lose so it’s a shame that we’ve not been able to pick up a win here, but on a personal level, I’m delighted to get 90 minutes under my belt, for me that’s my first 90 since last September, so to complete it and play in front of our fans it was a great experience,” he said.
“First-half we were slow and struggled to put pressure on the ball, but we took control in the second-half and we were on top of them, they were making a few more mistakes and if we can find the end product we could have a very good season.”
“The system suits me well I feel, I like to attack when I’m playing and I’m sure the lads can score a lot of goals this season, we want to entertain the fans and pick up a few wins along the way.”
Crawford signed a two-year deal in South Yorkshire earlier this month following his release from Scottish side Hamilton Academical, and he says he is relishing the challenge that League One brings.
“I’ve always wanted to come down and play in England, to express myself and see how I’d get on, it’s a challenge that I’m up for and looking forward to, I feel that it’s a better standard down here, they like to get on the ball more and I think that will suit me,” he added.
“Hopefully this can be a good season for me personally and for the club as well, I’m confident we can do well, once we have a bit more confidence in front of goal, we can score against anyone in this league and progress.
“I’d been at Hamilton for 11 years, so it was always going to be sad to move on, but it was something that I felt I needed to do at this point in my career, I needed a new challenge, and hopefully I can kick on now and we can have a successful season.”
Rovers kick-off their Sky Bet League One campaign at Southend United on Saturday August 4, before their first home outing against Wycombe Wanderers the following Saturday.
