Manager Grant McCann was impressed with young forward Myron Gibbons’ performance in Tuesday’s 5-0 pre-season victory over Frickley Athletic.

Gibbons played half-an-hour split over two halves at the Bigfellas Stadium, and McCann says he was delighted to see him assist Ben Whiteman for his goal.

"I was a good performance from the side, it is another 45 minutes into the legs for the lads and one of the young players, Myron Gibbons, impressed me too," he said.

“That was the first time that I have seen him in a game and I said to Kieran Scarff that we might use him, he came off the bench and set up the goal for Ben Whiteman as well.

“Once we got into our rhythm we got forward a lot more, it was nice to see one of my full-backs score off my other full-backs cross and that is exactly what I want them to do.”
Midfielder Ali Crawford became McCann’s first signing since joining Rovers, and the Northern Irishman says he will add a lot to the team.
“Ali is someone that I have known for the last few years, a couple of seasons ago he was probably one of the best midfielders in Scotland, and he will add a lot to the team,” he added.
“He is a Hamilton lad and he has been there since the age of 11, so it was difficult get him out of there but I am pleased he’s decided to join us.
“He’ll play an attacking role in the team, there are a lot of competitions for places which is always a good thing, and this is why pre-season is important.”

Rovers kick-off their Sky Bet League One campaign at Southend United on Saturday August 4, before their first home outing against Wycombe Wanderers the following Saturday.
