Defensive midfielder Luke McCullough is enjoying his first full pre-season since 2015 as preparations for the 2018/19 Sky Bet League One campaign continue to take shape.
The Northern Irishman has featured against Alfreton Town and Frickley Athletic, and says a solid pre-season will stand him in good stead.
“It’s been an enjoyable pre-season for me so far, the last pre-season I was involved in was back in 2015, so it has been good being back with the lads,” he said.
“Everytime the work gets hard or I’m struggling I have to remind myself that I haven’t done it for a while, so I just keep my head down and keep working.
“I’m hoping that a solid pre-season will stand me in good stead for later on in the campaign, the first couple of weeks are hard but once the start of the season nears it gets more enjoyable.”
McCullough also praised fellow countryman and new manager Grant McCann for his guidance since joining the club, and says he is keen to keep learning from him.
“He is a Northern Irishman like myself which is always nice, all the lads are enjoying his training and they way he wants us to play, so fingers crossed it will be a successful season,” he added.
“He was capped a few times by Northern Ireland, and scored a few goals as well, and he is someone that I am keen to learn from.
“Fitness has been important over the first two pre-season games, now we are moving closer to the start of the season, we will start putting things into place for that.”
Rovers kick-off their Sky Bet League One campaign at Southend United on Saturday August 4, before their first home outing against Wycombe Wanderers the following Saturday.
