Midfielder Tommy Rowe has praised the Rovers backroom staff after he made his return to the starting line-up in Friday’s pre-season game against Birmingham City.

Rowe was ruled out with injury in the final weeks of the 2017/18 Sky Bet League One campaign, and says the hard work of the coaching staff and medical department is the reason he is back ahead of schedule.

“It is quite unexpected coming back this early, but you have to give credit to the coaching staff and the medical department - they have pushed me all the way,” he said.
“I’m quite surprised that we have got this far forward but it is a credit to them, now hopefully we can gain on it and get the right recovery into me.
“You have to take things game by game as you would do anyway, I wouldn’t want to start throwing dates around, but I felt quite fit and I think it went well."
Grant McCann’s side were defeated 1-0 by Garry Monk’s outfit, and Rowe has been impressed with some of the younger players in the Rovers squad during pre-season.
“We have a good group of players who are keen to learn, I said that a lot last season, and I think a lot of the younger lads in the side have stepped up already,” he added.
“It was great to get 45 minutes under the belt and it is nice to be back, and it was a good test for the side.
“We knew we would have to be at our best to get something from the game, first-half we made a few chances for ourselves, and you have to be ruthless at this level.”

Rovers kick-off their Sky Bet League One campaign at Southend United on Saturday August 4, before their first home outing against Wycombe Wanderers the following Saturday.
