Grant McCann was impressed by what he saw on a busy first day as Rovers boss.

McCann met his players and backroom staff for the first time on Thursday morning, before taking in that morning's training session.

His afternoon was taken up by media duties as he familiarised himself with his new surroundings at the Keepmoat Stadium and Cantley Park training complex.

He said: "It was a really good day. The boys are looking great, it was great to meet them as well as the support staff and people behind the scenes at the stadium.

"It was a day of assessing things, getting to know people really."

The first-team fly to La Manga in Spain on Monday for a pre-season training camp, and the new boss thinks the timing is ideal as he sets the standards expected in 2018/19.

He added: "Next week is going to be really good for us, it is ideal for us all to get to know each other a bit more.

"We can set our targets, culture, discipline and standards for the year - making sure everyone knows what their roles in the team and responsibilities are."
