Assistant Gavin Strachan was pleased with the fitness of the Rovers players as they returned to training on Monday ahead of the 2018/19 Sky Bet League One campaign.
The squad were put through their paces by Strachan and fitness coach Rob Lee.
After starting with some initial fitness work, the players took part in some ball drills.
Strachan said: "They've done really well, we tried to test their technique after some initial physical work to see how their touch was under a bit of fatigue.
"They coped really well, and the exercises weren't easy. There's a little bit extra added each day, with a gradual build-up and everything tailored to the first game of the season.
"We've always tried to instil a lightness about the sessions, so they have a smile on their faces even though they're working hard."
Rovers kick-off their Sky Bet League One campaign at Southend United on Saturday August 4, before their first home outing against Wycombe Wanderers the following Saturday.
