Academy manager Kieran Scarff says exciting forward James Morris was rewarded with a professional deal at the end of the season after his impressive performances in the under-18s and development squads.

Morris also made a first-team appearance during the 2017/18 season, coming on as a substitute against Sunderland under-21s in the Checkatrade Trophy, and Scarff says the striker has a lot of potential.

“James finished the season as the leading scorer in the under-18s team, and he also displayed a knack of scoring goals at under-23 level, and he also has a very good understanding of the tactical requirements in his and other attacking positions,” he said.

“As an attacking player, predominantly playing as a centre forward, James has worked extremely hard to develop his finishing skills and this has certainly paid off for him, he is naturally an intelligent person and he take information on board very quickly.

“His ability to learn and develop alongside his clever movement and finishing has given James the opportunity to test himself as a young professional and we look forward to seeing him progress further.”
