Daniel Solts has enjoyed his new role at the club, after he was named head of academy fitness during the 2017/18 season.

Solts has been at the club for a number of years now, he is looking forward to another campaign, and has already got an eye on next season.

“We’ve devised a plan for the youth team, the idea after a long season is to just give them a lot of rest for the first few weeks and then the plan is to slowly start building them up from doing nothing to passive recovery then into active recovery for the second week,” he said.

“From there we build them up to come back in for the start of pre-season getting them ready to go, so the idea is for them to retain as much muscle mass as possible, we’ve had talks with the nutritionist and we’ll be getting them back in the best shape possible.

“I’ll start to put plans together for pre-season so that we can hit the ground running when we return, and the last stage of the plan will follow into the first week of pre-season, so whatever we do off there will set it up nicely for when we come back in.”

After previously assisting with the first-team fitness coaches for a few seasons, Solts was promoted to head of Academy fitness midway through the 2017/18 season, and he  is enjoying his role.

“I’ve really enjoyed it; the lads have been absolutely brilliant with me and it’s a good opportunity for me to try and implement new things,” he added.

“Not everything is going to work but you learn from that, and that’s the main thing that I’m doing now. I’m learning every day in this new job and I’m really enjoying it.

“I get a bit of rest this summer but that’s just like everyone else, it’s nice to have the off-season just to kind of get refreshed and get ready to come back in pre-season and go again.”
