Ferguson: break has helped us

28 March 2018

Darren Ferguson is confident that his side will have used their break wisely as they prepare to face Blackpool on Good Friday.

Rovers game with the Seasiders comes 10 days after their victory over Bradford City, and Ferguson feels they have managed the prolonged period without a game well.

“We’ve had a good chat about this break because we knew the Blackburn game would be off, we had a plan to make sure the players got enough work into them and keep them fresh going into the last period of the season and we feel we’ve done that,” he said.

“The boys look fresh in training, they’ve had a little break but it’s nothing too much more than usual, but we’ve managed it well, the only difference is the game is the Friday rather than the Saturday.

“It’s one of those weekends where people can make more of it than it actually is, yes its two games in a couple of days, but it’s also just the same as a Saturday-Tuesday game, but two good results could see us facing a strong end to the season.”

Rovers travel to the coast to face a Blackpool side that were promoted from Sky Bet League Two alongside them, and Ferguson knows that they provide a tough test for his team.

“They’re a good team with a good manager in Gary Bowyer, they’re very flexible within their side and they always provide us with a tough test because of that, they have a lot of pace in the right areas and they can play in a lot of different formations,” he added.

“I like the way they play and the different formations they use, and they always give us a tough game and that’s what we’re expecting, we gave them some tough games too and we were unlucky last year to go there and lose.

“We’ve sold pretty much all of our tickets and hopefully the fans can have fun with three points, we’ll have a great backing for it and we’re all looking forward to it, there’ll be more than 800 going and the support from the fans is great.”

Rovers return to the Keepmoat Stadium to take on AFC Wimbledon on Monday April 2, you can purchase tickets from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762576 or at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk
