First-teamers benefit from runout

22 March 2018

John Schofield says the first-team players who lined up for the Development side this week will benefit from the game time.

Issam Ben Khemis and Andy Williams continued their returns from injury with a full 90 minutes in the game at Cantley Park, and Schofield was pleased to see other first team players get game time under their belts.

“Our objective is always to win, but we’ve got minutes into players that have been around the first team recently,” he said.

“The first team had a great win the other night and now hopefully that will help the first team lads that were involved to push on and earn themselves a place in the side.

“Ian Lawlor was fantastic and he’s kept us in it for large parts with some brilliant saves.”

Schofield was also pleased to see some of the younger members of the Development side involved and hopes that they can use the defeat as a learning curve as this season comes to an end and they look to the future.

“We give constant reminders to all the players about what it means to play for this football club, about the pride and wearing the shirt and working hard and working harder than the opponents,” he added.

“You have to keep revisiting the philosophies of the football club and how we want to play, playing to the open areas and trying to utilise the areas of space we have created on the pitch.”
