Marquis feeling confident

1 March 2018

John Marquis says the goals he has scored in the past few weeks have been a reward for the belief he has in himself as a striker.

The 25-year-old netted his 10th of the season against Rotherham United last weekend, and says that was a result of getting in the same areas which brought him success previously.

He said: "Over the past four or five games some goals and assists have come into my performances, I don't think much has changed to be honest and I haven't altered my game.

"I've had the rub of green in front of goal and managed to finish a couple of chances off, that can happen when you're a striker and you have to keep believing in yourself.

"I only had the one chance against Rotherham and I managed to take it, but there's been other games where I've had two or three chances and not took any so it can work both ways."

Rovers go up against Bury this weekend, and having won the reverse fixture 1-0, Marquis says Darren Ferguson's side need to get on the front foot early against the Shakers.

He added: "Bury have got a good squad, where they are in the league is probably not a true reflection on what they have to offer and they've gone through a very tough period.

"We're at home and we have to focus on ourselves which is the most important thing, we want to win all of our home games and we see this as one where we can really get at them.

"We need to start making sure the luck goes our way and that we start turning draws into wins, the performances have been good but they've all been in tight games which always leaves you vulnerable if you make a mistake."
