Schofield pleased with Development showing

28 March 2018

John Schofield was delighted with the reaction he saw from his Development squad after Rovers played out a goalless draw with Walsall at Cantley Park on Tuesday.

Rovers’ Development side was a very youthful looking one, with Schofield making eight changes to the starting XI from last week’s game against Grimsby Town, and he was full of praise for his young side.

“I think it was a good all-round display from the lads, we say to everybody at the football club that we want to win games, if we don’t then we make sure we don’t get beat, we’ve done that and kept a clean sheet which is a huge positive,” he said.

“It was a good reaction from the disappointment of last week, we had great energy and good application in the way we played, but that’s a given for this football club.

“These games provide a great test to the lads. They’ve come up against opposition here that are of a similar age, but I don’t think any of them looked out of place during the game.”

The Rovers defence kept a clean sheet, with Danny Amos and Louis Jones among those returning to the Development side.

“I thought we looked very comfortable across the back, it was a decent, solid performance and a clean sheet always gives you a chance and that’s the first thing you look for,” added Schofield

“Louis didn’t have too much to do throughout the game but when he’s been called upon he’s been switched on and concentrated, his distribution was good and he’s good at organising.

“Danny and Branden Horton did very well too, so it’s a great all-round performance from a defensive point of view. We’ve created a few chances offensively so, apart from not getting the win, it was a good day for us.”
