Tom Anderson feels he can continue to develop as a defender after signing a two-year-deal with Rovers.
Anderson became Rovers' first signing of the summer after completing a move from Premier League side Burnley, and says it was an easy decision to put pen-to-paper at the Keepmoat Stadium.
He said: "It was a big decision to leave Burnley because I've been there for so long, they're my hometown club but when I knew there was an offer here I had made my mind up.
"I think the club sold itself to me and I really enjoyed my time here on loan, it felt right from the moment I came here so I was keen to sign.
"I played seven games last season and there is still a lot of improvement in me as a defender, I feel like I learnt a lot in the games I was involved in."
Anderson revealed that working with manager Darren Ferguson again was one of the major factors in him signing for the club on a permanent basis.
He added: "The manager had a massive role in me coming here, when I came in I was impressed with the work he does behind the scenes to prepare the team for each game.
"There are methods behind everything that he does, it had a very professional feel to it all so to be a part of that for the future was something which excited me.
"We stayed in the division last season as a promoted club which is always important, next season is now a case of pushing on and you never know what could happen."
