Issam Ben Khemis says he has enjoyed his first season in English football and is looking forward to building on it next season.
The Tunisia international signed from Lorient in the summer of 2017 and feels he is adjusting to life in South Yorkshire.
“It’s been said a lot that it’s my first season in England, I didn’t know the language when I came over here and everyone around me spoke English, but I am adjusting to the life and my English is improving,” he said.
“Other people that have moved here this season have still had their family with them, I’ve come over by myself really and I had to adapt to the lifestyle in England, and the football is a lot different too.
“It’s quick and you’re always running, you have to concentrate and I found it difficult to get to grips with initially, but I feel now that I am learning a lot and improving myself as a player.”
Ben Khemis played nine times for the first team, scoring twice, and he feels he can kick on in 2018/19 and feature in the Rovers starting XI on a more frequent basis.
“I’m only young and I want to progress, I’m always listening to the gaffer and Gavin Strachan, I feel I need to progress quickly, then I can go out and help the team next season - I was frustrated to get injured at Shrewsbury because I was doing well,” he added.
“I scored then came off shortly afterwards, but the injury helped me mentally because it was my first injury, I’m hoping this season will be a lot better for me.
“Doncaster is starting to feel like my home now, I like it because it is a lot different to what I am used to. The fans are different, I have adapted well, I’ve picked up the language quite well and I’m enjoying everything around here.”
