Matty Blair believes Rovers have the foundations for a successful 2018/19 season - but is ready for a much-needed break after the most stressful year of his life before throwing himself into pre-season.
Rovers finished 15th in Sky Bet League One and enjoyed a run to the third round of the Carabao Cup. With a young squad, Blair feels there is plenty of room for progress.
He said: “It has been a solid season after promotion, but we feel as a group of players that we should be higher than we are - and that can only be positive for next season.
“The foundations are there to have a really good season, it can be really exciting for us as a club.”
Blair made 46 appearances across all competitions in the 2017/18 campaign, a difficult year which included the loss of his brother to cancer in the summer.
He was given some time off earlier in the campaign while he processed the loss, but has since been an ever-present. Now he is relishing a few weeks away from football to recharge his batteries.
He added: “The routine changes drastically straight away, and it’s a case of completely shutting the body down to allow it to rest and recover.
“We won’t do anything for a few weeks, go on holiday with the family to allow the mind and body to settle. We start picking it up again from the start of June ready for pre-season.”
