Butler looking to spoil Latics party

4 May 2018

Andy Butler says Rovers are ready to weather the storm that will come from Wigan Athletic on Saturday night.

Wigan need just a point, barring an unlikely goal swing, to secure the Sky Bet League One title, but Butler isn’t interested in letting the Latics celebrate on home soil.

“We spoke about teams coming on to our patch and celebrating something, obviously the last two home games saw Wimbledon with something to celebrate, after Blackburn went up, now we go into this weekend’s game in the same situation,” he said.

“It’s a big day for Wigan coming over, but ideally we want to spoil the party, we aren’t going to lie down and let them walk all over us for the title, it’s not nice for us to see other sides celebrate.

“No disrespect to Wigan, we hope they finish second in the league, or at least get the result they need elsewhere to win the title, we want to finish the season on a high and go out with a win.”

Rovers sealed their League One status for another season last weekend, and Butler says they can take heart from what has been a solid first year back in the division.

“You can’t really question the players’ commitment and effort, I think now it’s a case of quality around the pitch at this stage of the season, but we feel the season on the whole has been alright really,” he added.

“We know we could’ve done better in certain bits here and there, there are certain aspects where we know we can improve, but overall, I think it’s been quite a positive season for us all and we can take a lot of confidence from that.

“There’s one more game to go now and we’re going to give it our all, we won’t switch off until the final ball is kicked and the final whistle has gone, the performances have been there, we just want a positive result to round the season off.”

Saturday's game with Wigan Athletic is an ALL-TICKET fixture, with no cash gates available in the South Stand, and only available to those with a Doncaster postcode, or a previous booking history. Tickets are still available via the Club Doncaster Box Office, either by visiting in-store, calling on 01302 762576, or online at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
