James pride at professional deal

16 May 2018

Youngster Morgan James says he is delighted to have secured a professional contract with his hometown club.

The 18-year-old has risen through the youth structure which has seen him feature twice for the first-team in the 2017/18 Checkatrade Trophy, playing against Sunderland U21s and Scunthorpe United respectively, and James wants to help Rovers return to the Sky Bet Championship.

“It means the world to me to sign a professional deal, I’ve been working towards this since I was eight, people don’t understand the hours you sacrifice as a child,” he said.

I couldn’t have got here without my parents, so a big thanks to them, and to the club for taking me on board.

“My long-term aim at the club is to break into the first-team and that’s what I want to do, I want to play for us in League One and hopefully in the Championship.”

James has had a successful season on the field for Rovers, captaining the U18s and the Development side, and he says he has it is a dream come true for him to captain a Rovers side.

Being captain, it sounds stupid, but it’s a big thing for me because you always get that extra kick when you’re leading your team out,” he added.

“People say you’re leading your troops out into battle and it’s one of the things I love doing as a person and as a player so it’s perfect for me.”
