John Marquis was pleased with how his season went following another impressive season in Doncaster.
The striker won the Golden Boot at Rovers’ end of season awards, but despite this, he sees room for improvement next year.
“I’d have liked to have scored more myself, but personally I feel that I have had a good season, as a team we haven’t scored as many goals as we would have liked for sure, we haven’t been creative enough, but I’ve still managed to score 15 this year,” he said.
“I’ve got more assists than I did last season too, if you tally goals and assists up I feel like I have played a big part in our goals this season, I feel I have played well, even when I went on a run where I didn’t score.
“I’ve played 50 games this season, it’s been a long, tough season, but it is one where I feel like I have performed throughout, and I am looking forward to improving even more and going again next year.”
Marquis was ever-present in the Rovers line-up, making 51 appearances in all competitions, and he says the experience of a first full season in Sky Bet League One will stand him in good stead for the next campaign.
“We didn’t finish where we wanted to really, we want to be at the top end and challenging, but in consideration with it being our first season back in League One after getting promotion, our main aim was to stay up,” he added.
“A lot of the players here, including myself, hadn’t had a first full season in League One before, it’s all about adapting to the different types of football, so a lot of the young lads have got a lot of game time under their belts.
“We want to be right up there next season, we’ve been unlucky to have the injuries we have this year which hasn’t helped, if we can get a fully fit squad next year for the majority of the season I think we can start to look up."
